Semilla Melange is a very popular yarn from BC Yarn. It is slightly thicker than the organic Bio Shetland and has the typical characteristics of a carded yarn:
Content: 100% wool
Line length: 175m/50g
needle: 3.5-4 mm
Gauge: 24 = 10 cm
Consumption for women's sweater size M: 400g
Must be hand washed.
The rustic look of the yarncomes from the fact that the individual hairs are not combed and sorted out as vigorously as with worsted yarn until almost all the fibers are parallel. This results in small loops that criss-cross slightly and create a beautiful volume. You get more out of the raw material with carded yarn than you do with worsted yarn. Semilla Melange has what it takes to convince many knitters that the more rustic yarn really has something to offer.
The raw wool for Semilla Melange comes from farms in Argentina that do not use mulesing, and it is spun and dyed in Turkey. Every step of the production process is tested and certified according to GOTS criteria. From the happy sheep in the meadow, to dyes, to spinning, the consumption of energy and resources and last but not least: the well-being of all employees throughout the production chain.GOTS - Organic - certified by BCS 25956
NOTE: The yarn is carded and can therefore easily felt. It is therefore important not to rub or expose the yarn to large temperature fluctuations between soapy water and rinse water. If you are using a pattern that requires felting, Semilla Melange is also an excellent yarn and will typically be machine washed.
