Alpaca yarn and llama yarn

Alpaca yarn is one of the most popular choices among knitters and crocheters as it's lightweight, breathable and feels incredibly comfortable against the skin. Its natural structure makes it ideal for creating airy and lightweight designs, while it also has a great insulating effect to keep you warm in cold weather. Llama yarn, like alpaca yarn, has a smooth and fine structure, but with a bit more body, which gives a nice and rustic look to knitting projects. Both alpaca and llama yarns are durable and luxurious yarns that provide amazing comfort and an exclusive finish to your needlework.

Where does alpaca yarn come from?

The alpaca lives in South America and is closely related to the llama. The alpaca grows to just under 1 meter tall, making it smaller than the llama.

The alpaca lives in the Andes Mountains, where there are large temperature fluctuations. This affects the wool, which has a heat-regulating effect.

The wool from the alpaca is thinner and smoother in structure than sheep's wool. This results in a finer yarn that is incredibly soft and warm.

The llama is larger than the alpaca and has a slightly coarser coat. Like alpaca wool, llama wool is thinner and smoother than sheep wool.
