When you use the knitting fish as a lap counter, you can keep track of your increases and decreases at all times. You just go down one ring at each round.

For example, if you need to decrease on every 4th row, start 4 rings from the bottom. Then move down one ring for each round. When you reach the last ring, it's time to decrease again 😉
